The combined road and rail transport system gives rapid transfer of goods between the two. Articulated lorries are used for individual transport by road, only the semi-trailer portion (2) of each being transported by rail. A low-loader truck (4) transfers the semi-trailer by transverse rollers. The tractor vehicle (1) is used only for the docking operations, being then free for other transport work.
