The ventilator for enclosed rooms such as bathrooms or lavatories has a large diameter inlet section, behind which is an electric motor (5) driving a fan (4) followed by a right angled connection for a delivery tube (6). The inlet section has a cover (25) behind which is an assembly (10) forming a suction inlet allowing a controlled amount of air to enter. This includes an insulation layer between inner and outer perforated plates (26) followed by a sound absorbing plate (20).
