A remote controlled manipulator with a number of degrees of freedom is constructed using servo controlled joint modules. Each module has a fixed housing (3) into which the motor (2) is set. The lower end of the unit has a housing (11) rotated through an arc and supported on a roller bearing (3B). The transmission to the unit is provided by a bevel gearing arrangement (5A,5B). Electrical communication is provided by connectors (9,16) with cables looped in a housing (12). Units may be coupled together. ADVANTAGE - Modules provide flexibility in construction of multi degree of freedom system.
