In a method of casting, in which molten metal (2) is caused to flow upward into at least one casting cavity (8) through a delivery tube (5) - this flow in the example shown being induced by applying vacuum to the tops and possibly sides of the associated moulds (3) by means of a suction hood (9) - the main novel feature is that the casting process is carried out with a number of moulds (3) forming a 'string' being conveyed along a body of molten metal (2), into which the delivery tubes (5) dip when required to conduct molten metal from the body of molten metal to the various casting cavities (8). In the example shown, the delivery tubes (5) are inserted between the moulds (3) at the upstream end of the apparatus by means of a robot or the like (not shown). Advantage: casting takes place in a steady-flow process, increasing the rate of production as compared to previous typically one-piece processes.
|
