<p>A decoy which includes the attraction, aggregation and attachment components of bont tick pheromones is used to attract hungry male, female, and nymphal bont ticks to a location where an acaricide can kill the ticks. The device functions as a decoy, inducing hungry ticks attacking the treated host to come to and attach to the skin nearby, remaining in said position for sufficiently long periods so as to acquire lethal doses of emerging acaricide. The decoy is oval or shield-shaped, or in the form of an elongated rectangle, with slits for insertion of sticky tape or other adhesive materials, so as to be attachable to the tail or to the leg of an animal to be treated. The attractant bont tick decoy is formed of matrix materials which retard the emergence of the pheromonal components and the acaricide, thereby serving to control bont ticks for long periods. The invention is also applicable to controll flies using tail band decoys.</p> |
