<p>A rotary joint for rotating heat exchangers of the drum or roll type having a journal (12) wherein damage to the rotary joint (10) by radial impact forces is minimized by mounting the joint housing (20) upon the rotating journal (12), the joint nipple (24) is stationary and mounted upon the fluid receiving head (22) and spherical roller bearings (62) are interposed between the housing (20) and nipple (24). The primary fluid seal (26) is located adjacent the heat exchanger journal (12) and impact forces between the seal components (68,84) and nipple (24), and their surrounding structure, is absorbed by the use of annular elastic glide rings (102,104) which also function as fluid seals. <IMAGE></p> |
