PURPOSE:To produce a lime-base refractory from food-industry wastes as a substitute for the lime-base refractory, produced from limestone with the hydration resistance remarkably improved. CONSTITUTION:Shells are calcined at >=1250 deg.C and then crushed, <=5% static acid or epoxy resin is added to prevent hydration, and the mixture is press- formed. The obtained compact is calcined at >=1100 deg.C to produce a lime-base firebrick. When >=5% calcium chloride is added to the crushed and calcined material, a monolithic refactory is obtained. Although the shells mainly have an aragonite crystal structure, the structure can be converted to a calcium oxide crystal structure as in the case of limestone by calcination. The crystal is made much larger than in the case of limestone, and a lime-base refractory enhanced in hydration resistance is obtained. The shells increased in quantity as the industrial waste are effectively utilized in the metal refining field. |
