PURPOSE: To improve adhesive properties and dye transfer efficiency as well as stability for a dye donor element for thermal dye transfer. CONSTITUTION: The thermal dye donor element comprises a polymeric support having in order a subbing layer and a dye layer comprising a dye dispersed in a binder, and wherein the subbing layer comprises a mixture of: (A) a polymer having an inorganic backbone which is an oxide of a group IVa or IVb element; and (B) a copolymer comprising recurring units of (1) an acryloxyalkoxysilane or acrylamidoalkoxysilane, and (2) an alkyl acrylate (ester).
