PURPOSE:To provide a polycrystalline diamond having improved strength and chipping resistance which is suitable for diamond tools, etc. CONSTITUTION:This polycrystalline diamond consists of a polycrystalline diamond synthesized by vapor phase synthesizing method and silicon nitride or silicon carbide included wholly or locally in the polycrystalline diamond. The volume proportion of the additive in the whole or local area of the polycrystaline diamond is 1-75%.
