A turbomachine blade comprises a central core (1) covered by a plurality of layers (3) of composite material, and an outer sleeve (4) of woven composite material. A network of transverse seams (5) pass through the layers of composite material, and preferably also the core and the outer sleeve. The core may be formed from for example a layer of carbon or glass fibres impregnated with resin. The layers are made from a woven composite material comprising, for example, carbon fibres, ceramic fibres or metallic fibres which may be impregnated with epoxy resin. The seams may be made from fibres of the same type. Such a construction is particularly applicable to large diameter turbine blades.
