PURPOSE: To easily and lastingly fix a metal carrier body in an axial direction within a jacket. CONSTITUTION: This apparatus for catalytically decomtaminating exhaust gases has the metal carrier body and consists of several corrugated sheet layers or layers of flat sheets 3 and corrugated sheets 4 and the jacket 2 which encloses the metal carrier body and is bonded thereto by a welding technique. The sheets have flat ends 5 and 5'. These ends 5 and 5' are superposed on each other, are arranged as an outer layer 8 at the peripheral surface of the metal carrier body and are bonded to the jacket 2 by at least one weld zone.
