PURPOSE:To save man-hours for mounting by providing a free counter to count an A phase signal and a B phase signal to the encoder. CONSTITUTION:The encoder in which a cycle counter 4 counts an A phase signal 2 and a B phase signal 3 and the cycle counter 4 is reset by a Z phase signal 6 is provided with a free counter 20 counting the A phase signal 2 and the B phase signal 3 in addition to the cycle counter 4. The absolute value of an input axis is detected based on count data counted by the cycle counter 4 and an origin of the encoder is taken optionally based on free counter data counted by the free counter 20 and an origin signal is easily obtained without use of the Z phase signal different from a conventional encoder. Thus, it is not required to implement origin matching for the detected axis and the encoder simultaneously and then the origin of the both is obtained very simply and the mounting man-hour is saved. |
