A device and a method for detecting a position of a remote controller for the television are provided to judge the numbers of infrared ray receivers receiving the infrared rays, to store a lastly used position of the remote controller, and to display the position on a screen so as to find the remote controller easily. A device for detecting a position of a remote controller for the television comprises a plurality of infrared ray receivers(11-15), a microcomputer(20), and a memory(30). The infrared ray receivers receive an infrared ray signal of the remote controller. The microcomputer judges the final position of the remote controller based on the numbers of the infrared ray receivers and displays the position of the remote controller on a screen(40). The memory stores the lastly used position of the remote controller.
