PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic having high strength and low thermal conductivity and improved in mechanical strength as well as heat insulating performance by including Si, N, O and Ti and Al therein and dispersing Ti in an Al-rich phase. CONSTITUTION:The objective ceramic is obtained by adding 20-50 wt.% aluminum titanate having <=40mum average particle diameter and an organic binder to total weight of Si powder having 0.3mu average particle diameter and mixing these raw materials in wet state, then drying, pulverizing and classifying the mixed raw material, subjecting the classified raw material to press molding and heating the molding to remove a binder and then heating the molding in a nitrogen atmosphere and heating the sintered raw material in an oxygen- containing atmosphere at 100-1300 deg.C to convert the nitride into oxide. |
