PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: methods for identifying individual amino acids in various body fluids collected from a patient; and reference ranges for normal amino acid levels in the various body fluids (e.g., blood plasma, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and saliva) for various age groups (e.g., neonates, infants, children, and adults).SOLUTION: A method comprises: derivatizing at least two free amino acids in a body fluid sample; separating the derivatized free amino acids by liquid chromatography (LC); and using a mass spectrometry (MS) method to quantify the derivatized amino acids.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
