摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent generation of excessive gaps between adjacent unit cells when unit cells with high volumetric efficiency are accommodated in a casing, by reducing the volume of each battery jar with its inner pressure negative with respect to the atmospheric pressure and accommodating said jar in the casing while maintaining the state of negative pressure. CONSTITUTION:A rubber tube 9 provided with a valve 8 is connected to an exhaust port 7 formed on the jar lid 4 of a unit cell 5, and the other end of the rubber tube 9 is connected to a pressure reduction system 10 so that the inner pressure of the unit cell 5 may be reduced to 0.9 atmospheric pressure lower than the normal atmospheric pressure by 0.1. 36 pieces of unit cell 5 thus made free from expansion are accommodated in a cabinet 11 made of iron and serving as a casing, with ventilation spacers interposed between respective adjacent unit cells 5. Thereafter, the rubber tube 9 is disconnected from each unit cell 5 as well as the valve 8 is opened to return the inner pressure of each unit cell 5 to the atmospheric pressure.
