PURPOSE: To efficiently remove undesired substances, for example, metal such as copper ions, iron ions or metallic compounds from a cellulosic textile material, etc., by treating the textile material with an aq. soln. contg. citric acid, an alkali metal salt of gluconic acid, etc., and a mineral acid. CONSTITUTION: A cellulosic textile material such as cotton fabric is impregnated and maintained for 4 hours in an aq. soln., wherein the aq. soln. contg. citric acid (or alkali metal citrate), an alkali metal salt or ammonium salt of gluconic acid (such as sodium gluconate) and if necessary a mineral acid (such as hydrochloric acid) is used. Thereafter, the material is strongly washed, to remove undesired substances, for example, metals such as copper ions or iron ions, or magnesium or calcium salts and/or hydroxides. Before, after or during the treatment with the aq. soln., the textile material may be treated with a depasting agent, a caustification agent, a mercerizing agent or a bleach. |
