The detector contains optical waveguides (S1,S2,etc) in at least one medium forming the surface or in mechanical contact with it and an optoelectronic evaluation circuit (AW). The circuit converts variations in the light passing through the waveguides, which depend on the pressure effect, into electrical signals, evaluates their amplitudes, durations and edge gradients and activates a display accordingly. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for tennis ball detection on boundary line. Different types of pressure effect, e.g. impact of ball, racket, can be distinguished and associated with corresp. processes to be triggered.
