PURPOSE:To equip a nonwoven cloth, which consists of composite fibers using ethylene copolymer of specific structure as a sheath component, with a permanent hydrophilic property by introducing sulfone radicals to the nonwoven cloth. CONSTITUTION:A core/sheath type composite fiber is prepared from ethylene- acrylic acid copolymer resin as sheath component and 6-nylon as core component. A thermo-adhesive nonwoven cloth is formed of mixture fibers composed of 60wt.% of the composite fiber and 40wt.% of polypropylene fiber. This cloth is immersed in 6% fuming sulfuric acid for 2min. to make sulfonation, and thus a separator for alkaline battery is obtained excellent in affinity with the electrolytic solution. |
