PURPOSE:To prevent the flame failure and half-wave lighting at the initial stage of lighting and quickly attain the stable arc discharge state in a discharge lamp lighting device. CONSTITUTION:When a power circuit 1 is operated, a timer circuit 10 outputs an operation signal to a drive circuit 9, and it outputs a stop signal to the drive circuit 9 when a fixed time elapses after a discharge lamp 4 starts an electric discharge. A high-voltage pulse generating circuit 5 is continuously operated for the fixed time after the discharge lamp 4 starts the electric discharge, then the operation is stopped. The half-wave discharge and flame failure of the discharge lamp 4 immediately after it is lighted can be prevented, and it can be quickly shifted to the stable arc discharge state. |
