PURPOSE:To obtain a automatic focusing device, which has high accuracy and satisfactory responsiveness in a system using video signals, concerning the automatic focusing device for photographing still pictures such as the electronic still camera or the like. CONSTITUTION:A focus detecting means 5 extracts a signal for focus detection from video signals obtained from an image pickup means such as a CCD 3, etc., and a camera process circuit 4, and a lens control part 6 extracts the focus signal of a boundary point dividing the moving range of a lens part into N parts and compares those signals. Thus, the rate of optimizing the focused state is limited and repeatedly limited by comparing the two arbitrary focus signals as mentioned above in that range so as calculate the final focal point, and the focused state is judged, and signals are sent to a motor driving part 7 and a motor 8 is driven. |
