POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE-BASED RESIN COMPOSITION AND PRODUCTION OF FOAM USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To provide the title resin composition capable of giving highly expanded foams excellent in crystallization characteristics with fine cells of uniform shape. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by incorporating (A) 100 pts.wt. of blended resin comprising A1: 5-95 pts.wt. of a polyethylene terephthalate-based resin and A2: 95-5 pts.wt. of a polyethylene terephthalate- based block copolymer containing 5-55wt.% of unit of the formula (R1 and R2 are each 2-4C divalent hydrocarbon group; R3 to R10 are each H, monovalent hydrocarbon group or halogen; x is divalent bond group or direct bond; m and n are each 5-20) with (B) 0.1 30 pts.wt. of a polyfunctional epoxy compound (e.g. diglycidyl terephthalate) and (C) 0.1-30 pts.wt. of an ionomer resin. The other objective foam can be obtained by melting this composition at high temperatures and pressures followed by mixing with 1-20 pts.wt. of a foaming agent and then extrusion into a low-pressure zone to effect expansion.
