PURPOSE: To maintain sliding engagement of a damper pad with a bevelled platform surface so as to dissipate vibrational energy in a bucket by preventing the reactionary force applied by the platform to the damper from generating rotational moment. CONSTITUTION: Pads 36, 38, 40 engage their opposite bevelled platform surface 26 when a damper 30 is propelled into a V-shaped groove by centrifugal force during the rotation of a rotor disc. As in the case of the relative bucket motion shown by arrow heads 48, 50, the load applied to the pad 38 (arrow head 54) and the load applied to the pad 40 (arrow head 56) are oriented to a common point 58 on a vector 44, no rotational moment acting on the damper 30 is generated. On the contrary, as in the case of the relative bucket motion shown by arrow heads 60, 62, the load applied to the pad 36 (arrow head 66) and the load applied to the pad 40 (arrow head 68) are also oriented to a common point 70 on a centrifugal line, no swinging moment acts upon the damper 30. Thus, it is possible to maintain sliding engagement of the damper with the bevelled platform surface and dissipate vibrational energy.
