The level meter has a measuring cable (7) wound on a rotary drum (5). The drum carries an electrical measuring probe (11) at its free end which is lowered into a well (31). Contact with the liquid surface triggers a signalling device (17) which indicates a change of conductance between two axially-spaced annular electrodes (15). A flat tubular frame (1) around the drum is terminated in a foot (23) with guidance supports (29) which partly enclose the cable, and project for a short distance into the mouth of the well. ADVANTAGE - More easily managed device with better protection against damage to measuring cable.
