The distn. tower, is composed of two vessels, a heat exchanger, and units to hold, feed and pump the material, a processing medium and processing matter to separate the high percentage of water from the oil. The two vessels are in a vertical stack, with a contents level sensor at the lower vessel, linked to a pump at the holding tank to deliver oil to the lower vessel as required. The heat exchanger unit is within the lower vessel with overheated water to give the evapn. temp. The temp. is controlled by regulating the water feed through a valve, esp. motor driven operated w.r.t. the temp. registered by a thermal probe within the lower vessel. Pref. an outlet at the upper vessel which acts as an expansion vessel to take the vapour from the lower vessel, leads to a heat exchanger, to give prim. and sec. cooling to convert the vapour wholly into water to be collected in an auxiliary tank. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is used in large steel and metallurgical installations, where there are large quantities of soluble oil to be handled.
