PURPOSE:To obtain a friction material for cars, having improved absorbing properties of vibration caused by friction without using harmful asbestor, by molding and setting nonasbestos bases, organic fibers, and a thermosetting resin as materials in such a way that a formed product has a specific void volume ratio. CONSTITUTION:Nonasbestos bases, e.g., glass fibers, carbon fibers, etc., are mixed with organic fibers, e.g., cotton, heat-resistant synthetic fibers, etc. to form slivers, which are made spun yarn. For example, the yarn is impregnated with a thermosetting resin, e.g., phenolic resin, e.g., in such a way the formed varnish impregnated composition has 20wt% resin, 5wt% volatile and 75wt% spun yarn. The composition is dried, molded and set so that a formed product has a void volume ratio 5-25vol% to give the desired friction material. To make the above-mentioned void volume ratio, for example, molding may be carried out by using an amount 5-25wt% less than that required to make densely an molded article having a void volume ratio of 0vol% by a mold with a constant volume. EFFECT:Problems, e.g., noise of disc pad, judder of clutch facing, etc. are prevented. |
