This device consists of a rigid structure (1) comprising two cams (2) and (3), a counterweight (4) and a graduated sector (9). A suspension line (5) passing over the cam (2) is fixed to the structure at (6), a second line (7) on which the load to be weighed is suspended passes through the groove (3) and is fixed to the structure at (8). The assembly is balanced by rotation through an angle which depends on the load to be weighed. The suspension line acting as a marker makes it possible to read the weight of the load from the graduated sector. The simplicity and the sensitivity of this device makes it possible to produce economical and accurate weighing machines such as, for example, a letter weigher. The mechanism accommodated between two flanges makes it possible to have planar surfaces which can be used as a decorative or advertising support. <IMAGE>
