PURPOSE: To provide a vehicle bonnet assembly where an buffer action is improved by moving a bonnet rearward when an impact is given to the leading edge by an accident or the like, so that the trailing edge of the bonnet is lifted to increase the space between the bonnet and an engine disposed below the bonnet. CONSTITUTION: This vehicle bonnet assembly includes a bonnet 10 hinged to a vehicle body adjacent to one edge and having a releasable catch 25 adjacent to the opposite edge. The bonnet 10 is hinged to the vehicle body so as to permit the rearward movement of the bonnet 10 when an impact is applied to the leading edge 12 thereof. A lifting mechanism 11, 26 is provided to lift the trailing edge 20 of the bonnet 10 in response to the rearward movement of the bonnet 10.
