PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for measuring specific gravity of liquid, especially urine. CONSTITUTION: A pipet 8 which distributes a sample liquid, a vessel 4 which holds a distributed sample liquid, a sensor 2 assigned in the vessel for measuring refraction index of liquid and a means wherein a specific gravity of a sample liquid is calculated based an the refraction index of the sample liquid measured in the vessel and the refraction index of water, are provided. A sensor 2 is of an optical fiber which bends multiple times to formΩ-shape, and is submerged in the sample liquid.
