PURPOSE:To ensure a stroboscopic device to emit light by applying the charging voltage of a voltage multiplying capacitor superposed on the charging voltage of a main capacitor, across the main electrodes of a flash discharge lamp, when an insulation gate type bipolar transistor IGBT is turned on. CONSTITUTION:Even when a flash discharge lamp 5 is in ionized state, and the cathode potential thereof is low, a voltage multiplying capacitor 17 and a trigger capacitor 33 are so charged that the terminals thereof connected to the cathode of the lamp 5 have high potential. As a result, charging operation progresses without any trouble, from the time when the lamp 5 is ionized. In other words, the charging operation starts concurrently with the power interruption of IGBT. Thus, even when the supply of a light emission signal to a drive control circuit 13 is interrupted, and a light emission start signal is supplied to a silicon controlled rectifier SCR 18 in a very short time for performing repeated light emitting operation, the capacitor 17 is already charged at the start of the deenergizing operation of the IGBT. Charging voltage or the like, therefore, can be applied to the capacitor 17, when the SCR 18 is turned on, and the discontinuity of light emission from the lamp 5 can be prevented. |
