PURPOSE:To translate a technical term into the square form of Japanese syllabary (KANA) without providing any technical term dictionary in the form of a text with translation on the opposite side. CONSTITUTION:A machine translation system is equipped with a dictionary for technical terms written in the square forms of KANA to store only the indexes of technical terms written in the square forms of KANA and a spelling translation table storing translation rules for translating phrases to be translated into the descriptions of the square forms of KANA based on the spelling constitution of the phrase to be translated. In the case of a translation processing, the translated word candidates written in the square forms of KANA corresponding to the phrase to be translated are generated based on the translation rules in the spelling translation table (step 31) and further, the dictionary for technical terms written in the square forms of KANA is retrieved in respect to the generated translated word candidates written in the square forms of KANA (step 32). When there is any relevant description in the square form of KANA, the relevant description in the square form of KANA is used as the translated word (step 33). |
