摘要 A containment vessel for a nuclear reactor, comprises an inner steel safety vessel (1), and an outer concrete shell (2) which surrounds the former at a fixed distance (3). In the concrete are anchored a large number of radially directed fins (4), which are made of corrugated steel plate. They stop short of the inner safety vessel (1). The concrete shell (2) is provided with a large number of cool air openings which consists of pipes that open perpendicular to the concrete surface so that they are divided between the spaces between the fins (4) and being under the fins themselves. ADVANTAGE - The design is strong enough to absorb the kinetic energy of the steel safety vessel as it expands due to a hydrogen reaction. Further the corrugated fins enable heat transfer to continue under accident conditions.
