A one-way damper comprising first and second forming members (2, 7) disposed opposite one another and forming a chamber (5) therebetween. The two forming members are rotatable relative to one another. A coil spring (9) is wound around one of the forming members and a viscous fluid is accommodated in the chamber (5). The damper is compact in construction. When the damper is included in a foot operated car parking brake it may be used to damp return movement of the brake pedal when the brake is released.
