In a sealed type belt conveyor (10) a long length flexible conveyor belt (11) has a pair of primary edge formations (17, 18) provided substantially adjacent respective longitudinal edges (15, 16) of a first, load carrying surface (12) of the belt, and a secondary edge formation (19) is provided on said first surface proximate a first (15) of the primary edge formations and spaced therefrom at least in part to define a longitudinally extending retention groove (24) whereby when the belt is deformed to adopt a substantially tubular configuration the second, other (18) of the primary edge formations can lie at least in part in said retention groove. Belt support means (27) is provided at intervals along the conveyor to engage edge regions (15, 16) of the belt and hold the second (18) of the primary edge formations in said retention groove (24). |
