PURPOSE:To correctly measure the position and shape of charged particles by providing a metal plate having a grid-like mark in a duct through which the charged particles pass, and monitoring the charged particles colliding with the surface of the metal plate through a peep window formed on the duct. CONSTITUTION:A metal plate 10 accessible to a duct 1, inclined against the advance direction of charged particles, and having a grid-like mark is provided and reciprocated by a drive section 11. A potentiometer 12 is provided to detect the position of the metal plate 10. A television camera 14 serving as a monitoring device is provided, with its tip fixed, on a peep window 13 formed on the duct 1 just beside the metal plate 10. An X-ray detector 15 is provided, with its top directed to the metal plate 10, on the outside of the duct 1. When the metal plate 10 is inserted into the duct 1 by the drive section 11 and the metal plate 10 reaches the position where the charged particles pass, the X-rays generated when the charged particles collide with the metal plate 10 are detected by the X-ray detector 15, and the shape of the colliding charged particles can be visually captured by the camera 14.
