A speed estimator for the processing of television pictures comprises a device which comes in after speeds have been estimated for a picture (51), when estimation of the speeds in a following picture (53) is involved. This device associates a group (5) of several parts of an earlier picture (51) with an examined part (R) in a picture (53), a group which contains the part occupying the same position in the picture as the part examined and likewise the neighbouring parts, and studies whether one of the nine speeds determined for the nine parts of the said group (5) can be applied to the part R. If such is the case, the work of the estimator is terminated for the examined part (R), and furthermore the transmission of the speed for this part is then carried out not by transmitting the value of the speed, but by referring to that of the parts of the group (5), the speed of which is suitable. <IMAGE> |
