PURPOSE:To provide the low-cost surface mount type optical integrated circuit which is decreased in assembly and adjustment man-hours and requires high machining precision for neither a substrate nor optical components. CONSTITUTION:On the substrate 1, a directional coupler type matrix switch 3a is mounted. The matrix switch 3a and optical waveguides 2a and 2b are optically coupled by an optical fiber 4. The optical fiber 4 and waveguides 2a, 2b, and 12 are arranged nearby and coupled so that the optical fiber 4 and optical waveguides 2 and 12 are parallel as well as an optical fiber coupler and a directional coupler. The both are connected by the same method with wire bonding for electric connections. |
