A mat for stabilizing particulate materials includes a planar quadrilateral grid formed by a plurality of intersecting struts (50, 51). A reinforcement zone (49) strengthens each of the strut intersections. Upstanding cylindrical tubular members (1-36) are disposed on the grid in a rectangular array such that the central longitudinal axis of each of the tubular members (1-36) extends through a strut intersection (49). Longitudinal ribs (52) are formed on an interior cylindrical sidewall of each of the tubular members (1-36) and are disposed such that each of the ribs (52) perpendicularly intersects a strut (50, 51) adjacent a bottom end of the tubular member (1-36). Sockets (38) are spaced uniformly along two adjacent sides of the mat, with each socket (38) secured between two of the tubular members (1-36) by a pair of struts (59, 60). |
