PURPOSE:To provide the optical integrated circuit which does not depend upon the passage of light so much and has small variation in light loss between a light input and an output while suppressing the number of semiconductor amplifiers for loss compensation as much as possible. CONSTITUTION:As for the semiconductor integrated circuit composed of an optical input array 1, one or plural stages of optical circuit arrays (e.g. optical switch or optical circuit array for optical demultiplexing and multiplexing) where optical elements of the same kind are arranged, and an optical output array 3 so that optical circuits of adjacent arrays are connected by optical waveguides 4 (401, 412, 423, 434, 445, and 456), the pitch of the optical circuits constituting the optical circuit array is made much less than the pitch of the optical input array 1 and the pitch of the optical output array 3 and the semiconductor amplifier 5 for loss compensation of this semiconductor integrated circuit is installed in the optical input array or/and optical output array. |
