PURPOSE:To provide the substrate material for a thin-film magnetic head which has a large coefft. of thermal expansion, has the friction characteristic equal to the friction characteristic of a magnetic metallic film, has good workability, and lessens the generation of chipping. CONSTITUTION:The material of the nonmagnetic substrate 1 for the thin-film magnetic head consists of only the NiO, La2O3 and MgO. The content of the NiO is 30 to 90mol%, the content of the La2O3 is 0.1 to 5mol% and the content of the MgO is 10 to 70 mol%. The coefft. of thermal expansion of this material is >=125X10<-7>/ deg.C. |
