PURPOSE:To input an image by using inexpensive personal facsimile equipment in an image input device which inputs the image or the character recognition result of the image to a computer. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with facsimile equipment 5 by which a compressed image signal is transmitted via an telephone interface, and an image input adaptor 1 which receives the compressed image signal of the facsimile equipment 5 and transfers it to the computer via a high-order interface. The image input adaptor 1 is equipped with a telephone circuit interface part 10 connected to the facsimile equipment 5, a control part 11 which performs a facsimile reception control operation, memory 12 in which a received image signal is stored, and a high-order interface part 13 for transferring the image signal to the computer.
