PURPOSE:To provide a vehicle type discrimination method from engine sound which extracts engine constitution data existing as the feature of a sound print data and compares/checks the sound print based on engine constitution data to easily discriminate a vehicle type. CONSTITUTION:Sound generated from a vehicle is detected by a sound sensor 5, an engine signal 11 is extracted from a detecting signal 10, sound print data 14 is measured by an FFT analyzing circuit 12, and measured sound print data 14 and a sound print previously registered in a registering sound print file 18 are compared/checked so as to discriminate the type of vehicle mounting the engine in this method. An engine constitution data extracting circuit 13 extracting engine constitution data 16 from the engine sound signal 11 and a display 17 are provided. The sound print data and engine constitution data 16 corresponding to it are registered in the registering sound print file 18 to select sound print data and sound print data is selected corresponding to engine constitution data to compare/check the sound print and a measured sound print. |
