Coupling between extruders and gear pumps - has adaptor tube which allows screw to extend some way into pump housing

A supply device (13a) to a gear pump is connected to it so that it protrudes at least partially into the gear pump housing (1). The construction materials of the supply device (13a) and the pump housing (1) are arranged to have compatible thermal expansion. The connection is pref. made by an adaptor tube (15) which connects the existing pump port (5a) to the supply (13a), esp. a screw extruder. The adaptor tube (15) can contain sensors (21) and heating/cooling arrangements. Pref. a screw extruder (13a) is coupled to a gear pump with an adaptor tube (15) which matches the extruder barrel so that the screw can extend some distance into the pump housing (1). The adaptor tube (15) can be arranged in standard sizes to fit the pump ports (5a, 7a) and is made of the same material as the extruder barrel. It is connected to the heating/cooling channels (17) of the extruder and can contain temperature or pressure sensors (21) as required. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method reduces the space required to couple a gear pump to an extruder.
