<p>2119455 9306048 PCTABS00021 The present invention describes a novel method and apparatus for treating and/or disinfecting water and/or wastewater wherein the water or wastewater influent (11) is directed into a contact vessel (13) which may be sealed and may be under greater than atmospheric pressure by means of a pump or some other mechanical means at (17). The vessel (13) is sized for a detention time of no more than 5 minutes. A disinfecting solution which may be an aqueous solution of a chlorine-containing substance may be added directly to the influent line (11) through line (12). Alternatively, the aqueous disinfecting solution may be directly added to the vessel (13) through line (14). The treated effluent is withdrawn at line (15).</p> |
