<p>The invention relates to the production of an optical lens made of thermoplastic synthetic material coated on at least one of its faces with a protection layer made of thermosetting synthetic material. According to the invention, there is provided, on the one hand, a lens blank (10') of thermoplastic synthetic material and, on the other hand, a casting chill (14I) on the molding surface (15I) of which there is applied a coating composition (11') of heat setting synthetic material, the lend blank (10') is placed horizontally, at the vertical of the casting chill (14I), above the latter, and, by heating, a natural thermal collapse is caused under reduced static load conditions till, by contact with the coating composition (11') applied on the casting surface (15I) of the casting chill (14I), it assumes the shape of the latter.
