PURPOSE:To properly detect the ratio of a carrier grain to a toner grain in a developer without exerting adverse influence on a developing action by allowing the developer removed from the surface of a developer applying means, in a bristle cutting area, and introduced to a partition plate, to come into contact with the developer contact surface of a developer detector. CONSTITUTION:The developer 260 is sufficiently stirred and mixed by a rotary stirring means 286, supplied to a developer sucking area 270, and then, held on the surface of the developer applying means 262, to carry it to the bristle cutting area 272. The developer 260 removed from the surface of the means 262 by the action of the bristle cutting member 278, and introduced to the partition plate 294, is brought into contact with the developer contact surface of the developer detector 304. Therefore, the developer just after being sufficiently stirred and mixed, which essentially has the same ratio as that of the developer carried from the bristle cutting area 272 to a developing area 274, is brought into contact with the developer contact surface of the developer detector 304. |
