Temp. determn. comprises (a) using one or more thermochromic indicators (pref. TRIS buffer and cresol red) with two or more extreme values in the spectral range, at least one extreme value being temp.-dependent; (b) measuring two or more optical signals at two or more different wavelengths, temp. dependency being exhibited at least at one wavelength; and (c) using the resulting individual signals for temp. determn. A test kit, for use in the process, has a TRIS-cresol red soln. providing an indication for a target temp. and for a photometer. Pref. a mixt. of 0.05-0.5 mol/l TRIS buffer and 0.05-2 mmol/l cresol red, with a pH range of 7.0-8.5 and a target temp. of 10-90 deg. C, is dosed into each dish cell to a layer thickness of 0.5-20 mm so that the measured extinctions, determined at the indicator wavelength and at a reference wavelength, have the same size and are in the range 0.5-1.5. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful for temp. determn. in multi-cell test dishes and micro-titration dishes, e.g. for temp.-controlled kinetic measurement of enzyme activities in samples. It allows temp. uniformity distribution to be determined with high resolution, allows indications of absolute temp. values to be obtd. and allows temp. variations in all the individual cells to be monitored simultaneously.
