PURPOSE:To obtain the dense and poreless mullite ceramics by subjecting the sintered mullite ceramics contg. a specific ratio of alkaline earth metals or cordierite to hot isostatic pressing (HIP) in a specific atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The sintered mullite ceramics contg. >=1 or more kinds of any of 1 to 4% MgO, 1 to 5% Cab, 1 to 7% SrO or 3 to 7 BaO, or 5 to 13% cordierite is subjected to the HIP in the atmosphere contg. Ar, N2 or O2 or any of these gases at >=1400 deg.C. The ceramics is further heat treated at 1300 to 1600 deg.C after the above-mentioned HIP treatment, by which the strains remaining in the material are eliminated and simultaneously, the discolored ceramics can be returned to white color. |
