Method for production of mechanical groundwood pulp from cellulose-containing raw material, like wood chips, in which method the raw material is ground in at least two successive phases in multiphase fashion. The method includes a first beating phase in which the raw material is ground with high intensity and at high temperature, and a second beating phase in which the raw material is ground at low intensity and lower temperature than in the first beating phase.
