(A) A gel electrophoretic migration unit has gel-filled capillaries (2), an excitation light source (8), a fluorescence detector and equipment for electric field application to the gel, the novelty being that the capillaries (2) are in the form of an integrated bundle, pref. in a cartridge (1). (B) A multi-capillary arrangement for the unit comprises a cartridge (1) consisting of the capillaries (2) and upper and lower plates (5,6), the upper plate (5) holding the capillaries so that their upper openings are accessible and the lower plate (6) holding the capillaries so that their lower openings are accessible.
